Gandhi

“The only thing that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

— Attributed to Edmund Burke

Please remember that a few individuals, groups or organizations cannot do all of the work on their own that is necessary to create a better world for everyone, free of all forms of sexual exploitation and abuse.  We are ALL equally responsible for doing our part, and we can ALL can make a difference, no matter what our circumstances.

So whether it's by sharing your story or your feedback, by making a donation of whatever you can afford, or even by just sharing this website with someone else, whatever you are able to do to support the cause is very helpful and is deeply appreciated. If we all work together as a team we can and will create a safer, healthier, more equal, more compassionate, and more just society for everyone. Thank you in advance for whatever you're able to do to help!

"One of the unforeseen consequences of globalisation is the shocking effect that western porn is having in parts of the developing world.

The village has no electricity, but that doesn't stop a generator from being wheeled in, turning a mud hut into an impromptu porn cinema – and turning some young men into rapists, with villagers relating chilling stories of assaults taking place straight after the film's end. In the nearest city, other young men are buying bootlegs copies of the almost always condom-free LA-made porn – copying directly what they see and contracting HIV. The head of the country's AIDS commission says porn risks destroying all the achievements they've made. It's a timebomb, he says.

The concerns aren't theoretical – I met young fathers with HIV whose only sex education came from LA, women living in the villages subject to post-screening abuse."

FOR PRO-PORNOGRAPHY AND PORNOGRAPHY-NEUTRAL PEOPLE:

If you are neutral on the subject of pornography or if you are pro-pornography, and you are wondering why someone would be against pornography, please read a) the above quote and the article it's from, b) our FAQ, and c) the following: (Note: definition of pornography lower down.)

WHY WE ARE AGAINST PORNOGRAPHY:

We are against pornography because it degrades love, sex, women, and all humanity, including boys and men. Pornography also frequently glorifies and promotes sadism, masochism, rape, incest, pedophilia, and abuse of and violence against women in general.  Additionally it harms relationships, marriages, families and children, and creates demand for prostitution  and international sex trafficking.

Please note that AntiPornography.org is:

Nonreligious,  Anti-Censorship, Anti-Banning, Pro-Free Speech

Anti-Exploitation, Anti-Sexism, Anti-Slavery, Anti-Violence

Pro-Education, Pro-Respectful Egalitarian Sexuality

Pro-reasonable regulation of the pornography industry for the health and safety of the performers. (Please see FAQ for details.)

WHAT WE ARE NOT TAKING A STAND AGAINST:

Please note that AntiPornography.org is against the harms of pornography, prostitution, sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking, but is not against personal private nudity, gay or bisexual people, pornography performers, non-compulsive, non-porn-facilitated masturbation, non-public sex between consenting mature adults, age-appropriate sex education, or private access to respectful, non-objectifying and completely non-degrading and non-exploitative erotica (see definitions below - this is not the same as most "soft-core" porn, which is very objectifying) by single mature adults, or by individuals involved in relationships who have the full knowledge and consent of their partners in regards to what they are viewing. (An example of this might be a couple viewing a mainstream film together with some erotic content during a scene where two equal partners are being sexual or erotic to some degree, such as when they are kissing, etc.)

RE VIOLENCE: Finally please note that AntiPornography.org is also against violence of all types, except for self-defense. So please don't bother to send a message saying "Why don't you worry about violence instead, it's so much worse than pornography." First of all, as you can see from the above quote and the article and documentary that it's from, pornography itself contributes to violence.  Secondly, AntiPornography.org is against both pornography AND violence, but most especially is against the combination of the two, which is unfortunately exactly what much of, (if not most of), current mainstream pornography is unfortunately all about. If you're not yet convinced about that fact, please see the rest of this website, especially the documentary "The Price of Pleasure." Thank you to those of you who are willing to take a look at the content of this website with a fair and open mind.

DEFINITIONS

For the time being and for the purpose of this web site and associated websites, pornography and erotica are defined as follows:

PORNOGRAPHY: Material that combines sex and/or the exposure of genitals with abuse or degradation in a manner that appears to endorse, condone, or encourage such behavior.

EROTICA: Sexually suggestive or arousing material that is free of sexism, racism, and homophobia, and respectful of all human beings and animals portrayed. (Note: AntiPornography.org is not in favor of open public displays of this or underage access to it.)

The above definitions are from "Pornography As a Cause of Rape," by Dr. Diana Russell, PhD, a book excerpt from "Against Pornography: The Evidence of Harm". Read excerpt at Diana Russell.com.

So because by definition pornography, (as it is used here), has to include abuse or degradation, if you are against abuse and degradation in regards to sexuality, then you are against pornography. So assuming that you are, welcome to the team!

Please note that the above definition of pornography also matches the vast majority of what the pornography industry itself chooses to identify as it's "product." Please see the sales and rentals charts at AVN.com for examples.

(Please see FAQ for more details on all of the above section or if you have any questions or concerns about anything to do with this website or what you read or watch on it.)

"What we need is a mind-set shift, one that moves us from viewing porn as hip and fun and sexy to one that recognizes pornography as harmful, pathetic, and decidedly unsexy.  Once pornography becomes discredited and derided by both men and women, consumption will become less brazen, and will eventually decline."

"Pornography is directly linked to sex trafficking. It normalizes degradation and violence as acceptable and even inevitable parts of sex, and it uses the bodies of real women and children as its raw material. The difference between pornography and erotica is clear in the words themselves -- porne means females slaves, eros mean love -- and we can see that pornography, like rape, is about violence and domination not sex. Millions of lives depend on our ability to untangle pornography from erotica, violence from sexuality."

Gloria Steinem, 2005

"With Our Own Two Hands" is the theme song of AntiPornography.org. Please do what you can with YOUR own two hands to help with the cause of creating a better world for everyone, whether it's by sharing your story, leaving some positive feedback, sharing this site with a friend, or by donating. Whatever you can do is welcome and can and will truly make a difference. Thank you!

"The quantity of and access to pornography has grown exponentially since the 1980's alongside the growth of the video cassette/DVD and then the Internet industries, while the content has become increasingly violent, degrading, and harmful to participants and viewers. Moreover, sex trafficking, which is closely related to pornography, is now widely acknowledged as a significant international problem. One cannot understand the dynamics of demand without careful attention to both prostitution and pornography. Activists must confront pornography and prostitution in any effort to attack sex trafficking."

Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality

- by Gail Dines

DESCRIPTION

Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality takes an unflinching look at today’s porn industry: the stories woven into the images, the impact on our culture, the effects on us as men and women, the business machine that creates and markets porn, and the growing legitimacy of porn in mainstream media. Above all, PORNLAND examines the way porn shapes and limits sexual imaginations and behaviors.

Although we are surrounded by pornographic images, many people are not aware of just how cruel and violent the industry is today. PORNLAND shows how today’s porn is strikingly different from yesterday’s Playboy and Penthouse magazines — how competition in the industry and consumer desensitization have pushed porn toward hard core extremes. And, with the advent of the internet and other digital technologies, users don’t have to wander far to access porn; todaythe average age of first viewing is about 11 for boys, and studies reveal that young men, who consume more porn than ever before, have difficulty forming healthy relationships.

PORNLAND also looks at how our porn culture affects the way women and girls think about their bodies, their sexuality and their relationships. PORNLAND: How Porn has Hijacked our Sexuality argues that rather than sexually liberating or empowering us, porn offers us a plasticized, formulaic, generic version of sex that is boring, lacking in creativity and disconnected from emotion and intimacy.

"DEMAND" - A Documentary by Shared Hope International

This excellent documentary by the anti-sex trafficking organization Shared Hope International is about demand factors for sex trafficking, one of the most significant of which is pornography. It also addresses how all forms of commercial sexual exploitation such as pornography, stripping and prostitution are connected to all other forms such as sex trafficking and sex slavery. Please visit EndDemand.org to learn more about how demand for sex trafficking is created by those individuals (mostly men) who purchase women and children for sex.

Please see their excellent report on this issue:

Pornography: Creating Demand for International Sex Trafficking

                               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Pornography is a marketing device for sex trafficking: It normalizes degradation and violence as acceptable and even inevitable parts of sex, and uses the bodies of real women and children as objects. The difference between pornography and erotica is clear in the roots of the words themselves -- porne means females slaves, eros means love -- so pornography, like rape, is about violence and domination, not sex. Millions of lives depend on our ability to separate pornography from erotica, and to disentangle violence from sexuality."
Gloria Steinem, 2006
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. PLEASE DONATE IF YOU ARE ABLE TO.
Please remember that it is not up to AntiPornography.org, the other organizations listed on this page, the government, or "someone else" to do the entire job of fighting against the harms of pornography, prostitution, trafficking, and other forms of sexual exploitation or abuse. It is an enormous job and the responsibility lies with each and every one of us to do our part as part of the bigger team of those who are choosing to be part of the solution of creating a more just and humane world for everyone rather than the problem. So thank you in advance for whatever you are able to contribute to the cause, whether in the form of a tax-deductible donation or your actions. What you do does matter, so for the sake of all those across the world who are being exploited and abused, and for the sake of the future of humanity, please do what you can to create a more compassionate and safer society for all.
Thank you for whatever you are able to give or do to help create a better world for everyone, especially for women, children and future generations.
 YOUR SUPPORTIVE ACTIONS AND YOUR DONATIONS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
THEY CAN AND WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
